The City of Harrisburg Appoints New City Administrator!

On Tuesday night, the Harrisburg City Council voted to hire John Hitt to fill the position of City Administrator.  Hitt and the city entered into a one year, renewable, agreement for an annual salary of $115,000.

John Hitt had served as Interim City Administrator for Harrisburg since September of last year.  The city conducted two prior public recruitments for the City Administrator position, late last year, was not able to find a suitable candidate. In January, the city council began discussions with Hitt to consider filling the permanent position, with approval of an Employment agreement coming on February 11th.

Prior to coming to Harrisburg in September of last year, Hitt had served as City Manager in Amity and Lebanon, Oregon, as well as Interim County Administrator in Curry County, Oregon.  He began his public service career in California as a Mayor and Redevelopment Agency Chairman.

Mayor Bobby Duncan welcomed Hitt to the City Administrator position and commented, “I am glad we were able to find someone with John Hitt’s experience and dedication.  He proved himself as our Interim City Administrator, and we can now look forward to the City Council, city staff and our citizens working together with John to move forward the many great projects the city is contemplating.”

Hitt thanked the mayor and City Council for approving his contract and added, “I feel very honored and pleased to be able to continue to work for and with the City Council in service to our Harrisburg citizens.”
