Is your water bill higher than usual?  Even a tiny leak can add up to a sizable water bill.  Leaking toilets are often the culprit where leaks are concerned.  Toilets can make a running water sound or be silent while leaking.  You can add some food color to the tank and let it sit for 10+ minutes.  If the color shows in the bowl, you have a leak.  (Be sure to flush afterward to avoid staining the tank.)  You can also check for fitting and fixture leaks under sinks, cabinets, walls and underneath the house.  Check outside as well to make sure irrigation is off and faucets are tightly closed.  If a leak cannot be found, the next step is to contact a plumber for assistance.
