Planning Commission

The Planning Commission is responsible for reviewing and regulating land use actions in the City of Harrisburg.  This position can be filled by anyone living inside the City limits or inside the Fire District/ School Zone.  

The Planning Commission is a quasi-judicial decision making body. The commission's primary responsibilities are:

  • Conduct public hearings and take action on land use proposals
  • Reviewing and making recommendations to the City Council on matters pertaining to the City's Comprehensive Plan, Zoning Ordinance, and other facility and master plans (e.g. Transportation Plan)
  • Provides information and recommendations to City Council about development related issues

Generally, the Planning Commission meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm; however, other meetings may be scheduled to allow for the review of land use applications in accordance with State-mandated deadlines. The Planning Commission is comprised of seven members appointed by the Mayor and City Council. A commissioner serves a four year term, with at least one position becoming available each year.
