Sewer System

No Trespassing at Sewer Treatment Lagoon

Treatment System

The City's wastewater is currently treated in two 9-acre primary facultative lagoons, two 4-acre secondary facultative lagoons, and two 1-acre submerged rock polishing ponds. The facility is located 1.5 miles north of the City on Peoria Road. The facility was constructed in 1991 and upgraded to double its original size to its current capacity in 2004. The raw sewage enters the facility and flows through the primary lagoon, secondary lagoon, polishing ponds, and a chlorine contact chamber. Effluent from the facility is discharged to the Willamette River from November through April and is spray irrigated on the adjacent Poplar Trees from May through October.

Collection System

The City's existing gravity sewer system contains approximately more than 59,000 feet of sewers
ranging from 4-inch to 16-inch in diameter. The older sewers consist of concrete pipe (C) and asbestos cement pipe (AC). Newer sewers installed are polyvinyl chloride (PVC). PVC pipe is manufactured in longer lengths than concrete pipe and thus, has fewer joints and the joints are more watertight.
