Mayor's Page

The Mayor is the head of the governing body of the City of Harrisburg. The Mayor is elected to two year terms, and his primary responsibility is to lead the council meetings. The Mayor's other responsibilities are:

  • Appoint the committees provided for under the rules of the council.
  • He shall sign all approved records of the proceedings of the council and countersign all orders on the treasury.
  • He shall shall sign all ordinances passed by the council within three days after their passage.

The Mayor and City Council meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. The first meeting of the month is a regular business meeting, while the second meeting is typically reserved for council work sessions. Additional City Council meetings may occur, as needed. *In the event the Mayor is unable to perform his duties, the Council President has the authority to act as and perform the duties of the Mayor.

Proclamations

At the discretion of the Mayor, he makes citywide proclamations. The purpose of a proclamation is to recognize a person, organization, business, or specific day, week, month, or event deemed to be of interest or benefit to increase public awareness to the majority of the citizens of the city of Harrisburg.
