Harrisburg applies for the Safe Routes to School Grant
The City of Harrisburg is applying for a Safe Routes to School grant to ask for funding to improve the west side of N. 9th St. from Territorial St. to Diamond Hill Rd. This route consists of approximately 1,500 ft of roadway that lacks sidewalks, curbs and gutters. Our children share the road with motor vehicles. During half the year, ditches on both sides of the road are full, leaving no place for children to escape if threatened by a vehicle!
The City is asking for citizens assistance in writing letters of support to ODOT and the Safe Routes to School Advisory Board, asking for them to grant the City's request for funding. Please provide your letter of support by July 29th, 2022 at 5:00pm.
Remind your children and grand children to always be aware of their surroundings, and how to be safe when riding with motor vehicles.
Public Outreach: Please come to the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, July 23, 2022, to sign the petition, or drop off your letter. Please show support and help to protect our children!

La ciudad de Harrisburg está solicitando una subvención de Rutas Seguras a la Escuela para solicitar fondos para mejorar el lado oeste de N. 9th St. desde Territorial St. hasta Diamond Hill Rd. Esta ruta consta de aproximadamente 1,500 pies de carretera que carece de aceras, bordillos y canaletas. Nuestros hijos comparten la carretera con los vehículos de motor. Durante la mitad del año, las zanjas a ambos lados de la carretera están llenas, ¡sin dejar lugar para que los niños escapen si son amenazados por un vehículo!
La Ciudad está pidiendo asistencia a los ciudadanos para escribir cartas de apoyo a ODOT y a la Junta Asesora de Rutas Seguras a la Escuela, pidiéndoles que otorguen la solicitud de financiamiento de la Ciudad. Proporcione su carta de apoyo antes del 29 de julio de 2022 a las 5:00 p.m.
