Building Permit Information

Starting in July of 2021, the City contracted with Junction City to supply our plan review and inspection services.   Plumbing, mechanical, and electrical permits are processed through the Oregon online permitting system.  Inspections will be provided by Junction City. The Building Official/Inspector is Jason Johansen.

Structural permits may be submitted online or directly to City Hall.  Application forms are available by clicking on the drop down menu button titled 'Forms and Permits' located on the menu bar on the left of this webpage.  When completed, submit the building permit application to City Hall, located at 120 Smith St. Checklists are included which give you details on what you need to provide with your permit application.  If you are building a new home, there is a $300 deposit due when submitting the permit application.

If you are constructing a new residential dwelling, or considering commercial/industrial construction, please be aware that additional charges, such as SDC's, and connection charges for utilities, will also be required.  In addition, property will be required to meet current city standards.  As an example, this can sometimes result in being required to install curbs, gutters, and sidewalks.  Please find the System Development Charges menu item for more information in relation to new home and building construction.

When do I have to get a building permit?

Building Permits are required for the following types of projects:  (This list is representative only and not exclusive.)

  • Enlarging or adding a door.
  • Enlarging, downsizing, or adding a window.
  • Adding a room or square footage to an existing residence, or garage.
  • Adding a deck that is over 30" high.
  • Replacing a roof or siding, if you are going all the way down to the sheathing.  Removing current shingles and replacing shingles, or adding siding over the top of existing siding, doesn't require permits.

  • Fences over 7' tall.
  • Adding or moving plumbing fixtures require a plumbing permit (includes sprinkler systems, which require a backflow device.) This also includes sump pumps under a house. Replacing your water heater also requires a plumbing permit.
  • Adding gas lines, or a woodstove, HVAC unit, air conditioner (permanent), and modifying furnaces, all require mechanical permit.
